Hello!
I’m Kate, eternal creative, floral alchemist, and champion of all floral artists! I’ve had my own wedding flower business since I was 23, and now 18 years on, my mission is to breathe confidence and self-belief into others starting on their own floral path.
When I first started out in the industry, I didn’t have a clue what I was doing, and very much muddled through. Some things went well, and some things not so much. There was no one I could call on to ask, how do you do this, how should I price this, how do I attract the work I want to be attracting, and it was hard. So much of what I did was trial and error, which is great, but it makes for a very long and winding journey.

I’ve made many mistakes and had some HUGE learning curves along the way, but I’m proud to say that I think I just about got there in the end.
Now, alongside a small number of weddings each year I help to nurture fellow floral designers so they too can realise their own dreams; learning from my mistakes and successes through my signature online group business mentoring programme “The Little Flower School” and through my in-person workshops and one to one sessions.
The “The Little Flower School” has been my baby. This 12-week intensive course has been a labour of love, and it has been an absolute pleasure to meet so many incredibly talented florists; each at different stages in their business, and to see them grow in confidence and step into their floral superpower!
Mentoring is something I’m hugely passionate about.
Helping fellow creatives to discover their inner voice and learning how to listen in and channel their creativity in a way which is authentic to them is what this is all about. I know how hard it can be to grow a business from scratch and I know how often those voices are silenced and the self-doubt can creep in, but I also know what an amazing and liberating experience it can be when that voice is rediscovered, and confidence is found.
Albert Einstein said “When you cease to learn. You cease to grow” and it’s true! When you cease to grow you cease to move forward, and in a creative world it’s all about the evolution. There’s always something new to absorb, something new to learn and that is what makes all this so exciting. Whether you’re taking the first step in your career and want to learn the fundamentals of floristry, or you need some creative reinvigoration to take your business to the next level, there’s something for everyone.

For me with florals, it’s the instant art and the access to an ever-changing palette of colour and variety. My brain has always been “fizzy," always flitting from one thing to the next, always dreaming up a new idea, but flowers have kept me grounded. They give me all the variety I could ever need in my work world, and I wouldn’t change it for anything! The recipe writing, the texture building, the colour palettes; I just love it!
Being able to have autonomy over my day and the opportunity to build a business which is sustainable around family life, all whilst earning an income is what I always dreamed of, and it is this which I want for you too. I’m not talking earning hundreds and thousands from flowers, I’m talking earning a decent everyday living without the hustle, creating a business, doing something which you love, and which lights you up.

When I’m not surrounded by flowers, or teaching through The Little Flower School, I can be found spending time with my young family; I love countryside walks with the flower pup, beach days, village life and impromptu gatherings with friends accompanied by good food and gin. My life very much revolves around our little village in the Surrey Hills, and I feel ever so lucky to call this place home.
Over the years my work has been featured on Style me Pretty, Love My Dress, Rock my Wedding and Rock n Roll Bride and also in print; back when bridal magazines were a thing, being featured in Wedding Ideas, You and Your Wedding, Bride, and the front cover of Wedding Flowers & Accessories magazine. In 2014 I won the National award for “Best Wedding Florist” in the Wedding Industry Awards. I don’t say any of this to impress, but more to let you know I’ve been around the block a bit and know the wedding industry well!
This site is a gathering of all my offerings, my workshops, my mentoring, My floral resources, and my weddings.
It’s also a space to collect my thoughts and let you know what is next for Kate Avery Flowers and The Little Flower School. I’m a huge believer in dreaming big and cannot wait to take you along for the ride.
